Our Favourite Markets

There's something precious about a market. That beauty of spending a morning, with no time constraints, sifting through piles and mountains of clothes or antiques. That sheer joy when you find a treasure. It's then wrapped in newspaper for you to take home. Or your taste-testing your way down a street, or marvelling at the beauty of a street full of flowers.

Half of B&H Buildings, for example, in one form or another came from Kempton Market. Sure, pieces have been reupholstered with new fabrics, or lovingly refurbished and brought back to life, but what it does mean is that these pieces have a a history, a purpose that surpasses Bourne & Hollingsworth.

JOEL CLARKE - BOOKINGS MANAGER

There are so many to choose from! One of my favourites is Spitalfields, for the ambiance and location, but first place (and not just because I live near there!) would be Camden Market. I have seen how it has changed and evolved over the years and it now offers so much for anyone who is looking. From antique stalls and food markets, through to reasonably priced hand crafted paintings and furniture, it is also stepped in history which is also really interesting.

NIKOLA - PA TO MANAGING DIRECTOR

It’s got to be Columbia Road. Who doesn’t love flowers? and there are loads of options for brunch or tea and cake once you have stocked up. I keep meaning to go there with my bike and fill the basket up with flowers, just because…

Sundays from 8am ’til 3'ish

ANTHONY - HEAD CHEF

I’m afraid I have to be boring and say it’s Borough Market for me, I love the hustle and bustle and it’s close to where I lived when I first moved to London so I’ve had some great times there and it always brings back some nostalgic memories.

RENEE - BOOKINGS & EVENTS MANAGER

Spitalfields Market on Thursday. It's the antiques market, and always full of amazing things (just as much trash as there is treasure, but always fun to look at). It's also great for people watching. I saw Bargain Hunt being filmed there once. It was very exciting for anyone over 50. (Bermondsey also had a decent antiques market, it's only on Friday mornings though I think)

MON, TUE, WED, FRI: 10AM — 8PM
THUR: 7AM – 6PM
SAT: 10AM — 6PM
SUN: 10AM — 5PM

LORENZA - MARKETING & EVENTS INTERN

I like Portobello Road Market and Brick Lane Market since both of them have really cool vintage clothes, second hand and antique things. - Lorenza

MEGAN - HEAD OF MARKETING

I used to love Portobello Road before I lived there and then couldn’t deal with the mass of people every weekend!

For food: Broadway Market - Saturday 9am - 5pm.

For clothes and presents: Cabbages and Frocks - Saturday from 11am

For antiques: Alfie’s - Tuesday - Saturday 10am - 6pm

For a dinner party: Ally Pally farmer's market, some sundays.

JIM - GROUP BARS MANAGER

Sundays are not my favourite day for getting up early and running around the place, but I will get up for Colombia Road Flower Market

The prospect of overloading oneself with greenery, cacti (and some potentially useless but pretty overpriced tat people threw away 50 years ago) is weirdly appealing, even through the bees-winged eyes of a hangover.

This may be due at least in part to the joy one can find in lazy meandering from stall-to-shop-to-pub-to-any-form-of-foodstuff-that-takes-your-fancy.

Concomitantly this joy is heightened by the inevitable dumping of plants, bags and sobriety in the corner of either the al fresco (and fittingly green) booziness of Beautiful Allotment at the Geffrye museum; the groaning Sunday lunch bearing tables of Howl at the Moon; outside Sager & Wilde with a glass of cremant, any or all before eschewing public transport in favour of a grumpy greenery-laden Uber homewards for a well-deserved Sunday evening nap on the sofa.

Sundays from 8am ’til 3'ish
